Other online groups and resources?

#1

hey, can we collect a good list of other groups we should belong to? For
example, I am trying to remember the info on communicating with the USAID
Open Data folks at the Lab and I am blanking on it even though they have
said it tons of times.

I also have https://project-open-data.cio.gov/ as a resource as well.

Thoughts?

Hey, Siobhan  Were you thinking that, for each Principle, there might be a related community (like the ones around open data you’ve shared)? Or just ICT4D groups, in general? –James

Greetings all,

I’ve had the chance to take part in some ‘Doing Development Differently
http://doingdevelopmentdifferently.com/’ gatherings, I thought there was
significant overlap with the ICT4D Principles.

Cheers,
Zack

i was thinking something less formal and more of a list of other communities. for example, folks interested in 6 should be (and are likely already) aware of open data stuff in US Government, IATI, etc.

Brandon P(at usaid) for example mentioned a place where people can share ideas and feedback on USAID’s open data policy and I cannot find it anywhere.

Siobhan:

I’m not sure about an e-mail list to discuss USAID’s Open Data work;
there’s an internal one for USAID employees but not one aimed at the
broader community.

Looking at the agency’s digital strategy
http://www.usaid.gov/digitalstrategy (in section 1.2.6), there is a
GitHub page https://github.com/USAID/Feedback/issues geared toward bugs
and issues with USAID’s open data sets and platform, but comments about the
policy as such should go to opendata@usaid.gov. In addition to these, a
public-facing e-mail list might be a good way to stay in touch with USAID’s
data user community and quickly share updates about new data sets, policy
guidance, etc. Just a suggestion, since I’m not actually on the Open Data
working group…

Yes, we’ve had a Stack presence for months now, but it’s been under-used. Would certainly support some trailblazing there and potentially Tweeting about any posts so that we can start moving the conversation there. Laura, thanks for sending out the link. bp
